When the Light Came On

Dan Bolin
“All God's giants have been weak men who did great things for God because they reckoned on God being with them.”  ― J. Hudson Taylor

While we were standing in our condo’s laundry room, the light went off. Pitch black! In the darkness I edged cautiously toward the light switch. As soon as I moved, the light came on!

The light bulb is controlled by a motion sensor; it only shines when someone starts to move. Maybe there is a life lesson there!

Paul’s first missionary journey was to Cyprus and Turkey. His second trip began in Turkey, but during that missionary journey, the light came on. “So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas. During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, "Come over to Macedonia and help us.’” (Acts 16:8-9) Paul and his companions moved west into Greece, and the rest is history!

Had Paul stayed in Jerusalem or Antioch waiting for more direction, there is no telling if “the light” would have been “turned on” for him to cross the Aegean Sea and refocus his ministry in Greece and beyond.

Waiting on the Lord is not inactivity. God has already given us the Greatest Commandment (Mark 12:30-31) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). Those should give us plenty to do until “the light” comes on.
