We All Need A Hand

Dan Bolin

Nº 135 weekly devotions to refresh your soul by Dr. Dan Bolin - March 2, 2021

“I would go to the deeps a hundred times to cheer a downcast spirit. It is good for me to have been afflicted, that I might know how to speak word in season to one that is weary.” C.H. Spurgeon

The battle with the Amalekites was all on Moses’ shoulders (and arms). While Moses kept his arms upraised, the Israelites prevailed. But when his shoulders sagged and his arms dropped, the Amalekites would start to win. To the rescue came Aaron and Hur. Aaron was Moses’ brother and Hur was probably a trusted friend. Together they kept Moses’ hands in the air, assuring an Israelite victory. “When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up--one on one side, one on the other--so that his hands remained steady till sunset.”(Exodus 17:12)

Our battles may not be as dramatic as the military conflict that confronted Moses and the Israelites, but we all face overwhelming challenges, grow weary in the fight, and find ourselves in need of support. We all need Aarons and Hurs – family and friends to prop us up when we become weak. At times we may need to play the role of Aaron or Hur. Look for family and friends whose arms are beginning to sag. Come alongside and provide the stability and strength they need to find victory in their battle.
