Nº 142 weekly devotions to refresh your soul by Dr. Dan Bolin - April 20, 2021

“Too often we concentrate only on the things we can see now; but our focus should be on that place we can only envision, but will enjoy for all eternity.” - David Jeremiah

Many flowers are heliotropic – that is a big word that means they rotate to always face the sun. They lean east in the morning, tracking the sun overhead throughout the day. By evening, they have rotated to the west. The warmth and energy of the sun provide the comfort and nourishment the plants need to flourish and grow. The only provision for the flower is to focus on the sun and stay connected to that source of strength all day long. The author of Hebrews has some advice for us today. “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.” (Hebrews 12:2a) Jesus authored our faith by initiating our salvation with His death and resurrection. And He perfects our faith by providing the grace and peace we need to face tough times, and the wisdom and strength we need to get through them. Our critical challenge is to stay focused on Jesus. We tend to turn away and look at cloudy skies or threatening storms and quickly pivot toward the many artificial lights that can never satisfy. Our job, like the flowers, is to continually look toward the ever-present Light of the World.
