Poison Control

Dan Bolin
“Forgiveness transcends finite human reason. The mere thought that one’s entire sin account can be utterly eradicated is staggering. Yet it is quite clear that the forgiveness of sins strikes at the very core of human need and experience. It speaks of guilt gone, remorse removed, depression disappearing and emptiness of life eradicated. What power there is in forgiveness! And it all comes abundantly from the gracious hand of God.” - Lewis Drummond

On our refrigerator is a small magnetic sign with a phone number; above the number are the words POISON CONTROL. Fortunately, we have never had to use the number, but it is nice to know it is there.

Medication can be confused, children can drink dangerous concoctions, error can be made with foods or beverages. There are many ways a dangerous – even life-threatening – situation can arise. That’s why we keep the phone number handy.

This world is filled with dangerous, sinful toxins, and we need to know what to do if we “ingest” harmful things into our lives.

Fortunately, the Apostle John left us a number to call if we need to deal with a spiritual poison in our system. He simply reminds his readers 2,000 years ago and today, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (I John 1:9)

Don’t allow sin’s toxic influence to stay unchecked in your life. God is faithful and just. He is eager to provide the antidote we need, and He is the only One who can purge the spiritual poisons from our lives.
