The only real, practical measure of my appreciation for the goodness and mercy of God to me is the extent to which I am, in turn, prepared to show goodness and mercy to others. - Phillip Keller
We read a lot these days about preppers. These people squirrel away food, water, weapons, money, toilet paper and other necessities anticipating an apocalyptic crisis. No matter how bad things become, they will be ready. Right or wrong, they are prepared!
Christians are exhorted to be ready as well. There are three things every Christian should be prepared for.
First, we need to be ready to help with financial needs. Paul tells Timothy, “be generous and ready to share.”(1 Timothy 6:18) We should anticipate the legitimate financial needs of others and be generous with what God has given us.
Second, Titus is challenged to “be ready for every good work.” (Titus 3:1) There is always something to do. We should use our talents to serve the Lord and others.
Third, Peter says, “be prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks for a reason for the hope that is in you.” (1 Peter 3:15) People are desperate for words of encouragement and truth. Prepare what you might say to those in need.
Whether it is our wealth, work, or words, we are called to anticipate needs and be ready to pass along what has been entrusted to us.
