Little by Little

Dan Bolin
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” -Helen Keller

I’m no expert on honeybees, but I visited a farm with a cluster of beehives and learned a few interesting facts. Did you know that is takes bees 40,000 trips visiting 2,000,000 flowers to produce one pound of honey? That a lot of work!

A bee will produce about 1/12th a teaspoon of honey during its lifetime – not enough to sweeten a crust of toast! However, a lot of bees working together produce a vast amount of sweetness.

Solomon built a massive and magnificent temple in Jerusalem, but he didn’t do it alone. Construction required over 180,000 workers to fell timber, cut stones, and arrange them in place.

“At the king's command they removed from the quarry large blocks of quality stone to provide a foundation of dressed stone for the temple. The craftsmen of Solomon and Hiram and the men of Gebal cut and prepared the timber and stone for the building of the temple.” (I Kings 5:17-18)

Good things happen when many people work together. We don’t have to do it ourselves; we just have to do our part. Don’t be discouraged by the tasks ahead. Like the honeybee, faithfully do your part and see what God creates.
