Debt Forgiveness

weekly devotions to refresh your soul by Dr. Dan Bolin - August 30, 2022
Forgiveness transcends finite human reason. The mere thought that one’s entire sin account can be utterly eradicated is staggering. Yet it is quite clear that the forgiveness of sins strikes at the very core of human need and experience. It speaks of guilt gone, remorse removed, depression disappearing and emptiness of life eradicated. What power there is in forgiveness! And it all comes abundantly from the gracious hand of God. - Lewis Drummond
In the United States, the current hot political issue is forgiving student loans. Whatever the cause, many people struggle under an enormous and excruciating obligation and have no way to repay their debt.
Beyond the rancor and debate, the reminder is clear: we all carry an overwhelming obligation we cannot pay. We are all debtors, and none of us can make the required payment. Our only hope is for our debt to be forgiven. We all need Someone who loves us deeply and has the resources to forgive our debt and set us free.
Paul understood debt forgiveness more than most. What he owed was enormous. He persecuted the Church and participated in the murder of Stephen. He reminded the Colossians, “And you. . . God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by cancelling the record of debt that stood against us, with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.” (Colossians 2:13-14)
God loved us enough to pay our massive debt with the death of His Son, Jesus. Accept the debt forgiveness plan that God offers! Let Him remove your unpayable obligation and set you free.
